Traveler

In that time,
traveler, there was little more
than a strong sense of strength in every action.

This is your time,
traveler, make it count.
The way you count the hours
until your next deep breath
suits you.

Have a good time,
traveler, while you’re out and about
to witness the first of the waves.
You are not the first to leave
your home behind you.

In short time,
traveler, you will be waist-deep in the future
you’ve heard so much about.
Your eyes,
much to your surprise,
won’t see the things they see now.
Your mind,
made sharp from the tax of the world around you,
will force you to forget
what you ever saw in them in the first place.

The right direction
changes at every turn,
but East will always be East at least.

In this time,
traveler, I find only questions,
brightly burning and incessant.

I’m growing
tired of this extended waiting.
Period.

I’m not much,
just a human being
human,
and I’m afraid. Old habits die hard.
I believe I inspire.

I hope

I stick around
Long enough
To see for myself.
